Keeping Your Home Safe While You Are on Vacation

To avoid fire, make sure that all appliances and electronics are unplugged, including your air conditioning and heating systems. Lights should be turned off as well. Double check all electronics before you leave the house, and make sure that your fire alarm system works fine. There is nothing worse than coming home after a holiday and finding everything in ashes.

For added security, do not spread the news to the entire neighbourhood that you are travelling. Just inform few closest friends. You might also want to ask your friends to check out your house if they have the time to. In addition, ask your postal service to hold all your mails to avoid having all of them piled up in your mailbox, which should give out the clue that you are at home.
